Maya Angelou Will Forever Rise

We have lost our Beloved Voice.  Our Sister in the Struggle.  A true warrior for justice and truth.  Maya Angelou inspired me to reach for my dreams and write the novel I fantasied about when I was a teenager with a typewriter in my parents home.  Rest well Beautiful One.

STILL I RISE

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Solange Needs A Man

Because Jay-Z is her sister's husband and she seems a tad bit confused about that simple fact.  If she wants to attack a husband it should be her own.  Her quickie marriage to Daniel Smith which lasted about three years leaves no doubt as to one of the reasons why it ended.  For her to attack a man who is not her husband so viciously and passionately makes you wonder what type of brawls went on behind closed doors in her own marriage.  Perhaps it's time she learned to keep her hands to herself like we expect men to do.

Beyonce would be wise to have a little talk with her little sister about boundaries and respect for her husband and her marriage. Could it be that Solange was feeling like a third wheel, frustrated that she didn't have a man with her for such an impressive night out? So, I've got to ask, where was Solange's significant other? Does she have a man in her life or is she content on being the odd woman out so she can soak up the rays of her sister's superstardom?

If she had a man of her own I truly believe that she wouldn't have time to claw at her brother in law.  No, she would be enjoying the highs and dealing with the lows of her own relationship.  She would want her man to be respected by her sister and family.

I applaud Jay-Z for the incredible restraint and excellent judgement he exhibited in the face of such a hateful attack.  The average man would have probably done something he may have regretted later (like kicking her butt).  Beyonce also showed restraint and should be commended.

Whatever happened that night it should not have ended with fisticuffs.  The last time I checked Solange is a female and could have easily been hurt had Jay-Z wanted to hurt her.  She got off easy but her reputation did not.

Solange is on the market.  Who's buying?
